The eyes we’ve got

O countrymen, my fellows,

Your soul is mine, as your happiness is.

Sit brothers and sisters and listen,

Listen to the song of a lost son:

Torn apart is my land,

Blood and mud all mixed,

On the ground our ancestors fought for,

Suspicions, jealousy, hatred, fear, mistrust.

From all of that, how can my eyes hide?

The truth is so striking, tiring, heart-breaking…

From all of that, though, my eyes dwell on the people,

Those who share my blood, lineage, and history.

The eyes, my great measuring sticks,

Windows of the self, double-sided swords,

Bringing light from inside and outside,

The eyes, revealing the truth in them.

O countrymen, my fellows,

Walking without eyes, no light,

Educatedly confused, even if brainwashed,

Mentally blind, even if trained.

Yeah, my people in darkness,

No way out, but follow the stream,

The only one in mind, no alternatives,

Lucky you, if you realize that.

O countrymen, my fellows,

You’ve got eyes but can’t see light,

Although you say you see, you are blind,

For, you see but the light can’t pass through.

Matured collective bad faith?

No other possibilities?  Just the fatality?

Close-minded by choice or circumstance?

No, can’t be that black and white.

O countrymen, my fellows,

Eyes opened, mind alert,

Walking as warriors back from battle,

Through their eyes lies the anger.

Yeah, you’ve got that determination,

Bold enough, but lack precision,

You’ve got a lot more to see,

Just widen your perspective.

O countrymen, my fellows,

Clearing their eyes to see better,

All in All, the interconnection,

The true complexity.

All are valid, some reasons behind,

Still, the logic is clear, history is clear,

My fellow, see the better vision,

Only then will you make a change.

O countrymen, my fellows,

The story continues, more to see,

These eyes we’ve got,

We shall use them with wisdom.
